I Met a
Man
On the road that leads to self-discovery
I met a man who lived not by the mind,
A reconciler of life's differences
Who knew the secrets we still strive to find.
An emissary of a higher force,
A light surrounded him, unearthly glow,
From heights unscaled and vistas yet unseen.
Empyreal, yet one we somehow know,
I marked upon his mystic countenance
A happiness transcendent, not of earth
And knew that bliss had found in him its home.
Immeasurable his stature and his mirth
Infinite the ocean of his calm.
His friendly face shone with a strange delight
That held one in an atmosphere of peace.
He spoke of things to come darker than night
And truth like a bell resounded in my heart
Yet this was not all, for looking deep
Within my soul he saw the future pass
Knew that which lay in me still asleep.
His eyes ablaze with Joy's deep inner fire
From the great and vast aeskesis of his soul
He mentioned future possibilities
Greed and power now man's heavy toll,
His mental blindness and his ego-lust,
And the purification that has now begun,
A time for silence and a time for trust..
No longer does he come to me at night
When mind is put to rest and dream-states dawn
But as a guide he is always there
In my slow awaking to the light of morn.
A gift of god, most gentle and most sweet
To lead me, though I stumble, to Her Feet.
